| This is the original map from the application for a license for an ambitious railway project, which was supposed to connect the Bernese Oberland with the Valais, right across the high Alps. A mountain railway and a sledge track over the Aletsch Glacier would have led from Brig to the Jungfrau summit (4158 m), where a connection to the Jungfraubahn was planned. The Jungfraubahn was already being built at that time, yet it was never completed all the way to the summit, but only to the Jungfraujoch. | Download entire map (10.7 MB) Title (56.6 KB) |
